Did you know that 90% Of Australians have at least 1 risk factor for Cardiovascular Disease.

There are multiple risk factors for cardiovascular risk. These need to be considered in combination and not in isolation. Small changes in multiple risk factors often have a large impact on cardiovascular risk, rather than a large change in one risk factor.

Screening and Risk Assessment is available at Capital Chemist O'Connor. Our Pharmacists can help you keep track of your heart health with one or more of the services below:

Blood Pressure Testing

Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease such as stroke, coronary heart disease, heart failure and peripheral vascular disease. Chronic kidney disease and diabetes also impact on progression and risk of complications.

Our pharmacy runs a program called 10 for 10. For just $10 you get 10 blood pressure checks over a period of time and one on one time with a Pharmacist to discuss your readings. We are also able to print out results for you to take to your Doctor if needed.

*No appointment necessary, Fee for service.

Atrial Fibrillation

Irregular pulse is a sign of cardiac arrhythmia. The most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia is atrial fibrillation (AF). AF is often asymptomatic and can be intermittent. Hypertension is a risk factor for AF. Screening for AF when measuring Blood Pressure is likely to increase the rate of early detection of AF. Early detection and diagnosis of AF can lead to early treatment to reduce the risk of stroke and other cardiovascular disease. 1 in 5 strokes are caused by AF

During September 2016 we will be able to screen you for AF with the assistance of a Cardiologist.

*No appointment necessary, Fee for service.
